Winners of the 2012 Regional Excellence In Exporting Awards Announced

Winners of the 2012 regional Excellence in Exporting Awards were presented by Lt. Governor, Kim Reynolds on November 2nd at the “Risk and Rewards Exporting Conference” held at the Michael Manatt Community Center in Brooklyn, IA.

The Greater Des Moines Partnership  Regional Export Award was presented to Insta-Pro of Urbandale, Iowa

The Iowa Innovation Gateway Regional Export Awards were presented to Miraco, located in Grinnell, Iowa and Interpower located in Oskaloosa, Iowa The Iowa Economic Development Authority also presented regional awards to Bridgestone of Des Moines and Interpower of Urbandale.

The regional Excellence in Exporting Awards were presented to recognize companies that are expanding their markets internationally.  Recipients were chosen based on their achievements and commitment to exporting as a component of their business strategy.

We Have A Winner!

We have a Winner of the $5,000 IIG DREAM BIG GROW HERE Entrepreneurial Contest!

Iowa Innovation Gateway collaborated with MyEntre.net to hold its second Dream Big Grow Here contest. The Dream Big, Grow Here business grant contest is an opportunity for Iowans to win one regional $5,000 small business grant and then go on to pitch their business for a shot at a $10,000 grand prize. Contestants entered their businesses online and encouraged others to vote for their dream.

Iowa Innovation Gateway had 20 entrepreneurs from the IIG region enter a dream. The top 5 vote getters participated in a pitch off contest on October 23. Presentations were judged on the following criteria: the viability of the business, an effective plan for use of prize money, the ability to raise additional capital, a potential to generate wealth in the region, the business provides economic diversity to the region and there is a potential to create jobs in the region.

Top Five Vote Getters Invited to Regional Pitch-Off

The on-line public voting phase of the regional Iowa Innovation Gateway DREAM BIG, GROW HERE contest closed on Tuesday, October 15, at 11:59 p.m. Twenty different regional entrepreneurs submitted testimonies about their businesses for the contest.

These top five vote getters will now present to a panel of regional judges on October 23th to see who will take home the $5,000 regional grant. Judges will be using the following criteria to determine the final winner: the viability of the business, an effective plan for use of prize money, the ability to raise additional capital, a potential to generate wealth in the region, the business provides economic diversity to the region and there is a potential to create jobs in the region.

Iowa Kicks off Dream It. Do It. Intiative Under the Leadership of IIG Chair

On May 11th,  TR (Tony) Raimondo, Chairman of Nebraska’s Dream It. Do It. Initiative and Jennifer  McNelly, President of the Manufacturing Institute helped kick off Iowa’s DIDI Initiative. 

They presented to an audience, which included Iowa Lieutenant Governor, Kim Reynolds and Paul Gregoire, VP Fisher Controls/Emerson and IIG Chair to discuss the impact DIDI will have in attracting and retaining top talent in the manufacturing sector. 

TR presented about Nebraska’s DIDI initiative and what programs they use to encourage students to pursue careers in manufacturing AND related businesses.

DIDI fosters growth, innovation, and jobs by building regional alliances through awareness and education geared at students, parents, and educators designed to capture and prepare the next generation of skilled workers.

All Business, No Hype Social Media Event Coming to Des Moines

On June 6, Iowa Innovation Gateway co-sponsored an event at which 230 attendees representing 85 businesses and 17 colleges and universities, joined Social: IRL at the Science Center of Iowa for “Beyond the Keynote” with Brian Solis.

Attendees were inspired to create change and challenged to stop conducting "Business as Usual".  Iowa Innovation Gateway, is pleased to join forces with Social:IRL again to bring a follow up event to Des Moines where participants will learn how to make change happen in their businesses on August 30th from 1-5pm at the Science Center Of Iowa.

For this special follow up event, Social: IRL will return to Des Moines with Social Media Explorer’s Jason Falls for an in-depth discussion on tools, tactics, content, planning, strategy and measurement.
